Deficiency of Vitamin D

Vitamin D is required for the regulation of the minerals and phosphorus found in our body. It also plays an important role in maintaining bone structure. Sun exposure is an easy and reliable way for most people to get Vitamin D.

Deficiency of Vitamin D : People who don’t get enough sun are at risk. Older people are also at risk for Vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D is found in fatty fish like Tuna fish, orange juice, soy milk, beef lever and egg yolks.

Effects:

Deficiency of Vitamin D in our body causes:

1. Calcium is not absorbed in bones and bones become weak.
2. It causes backache.
3. It triggers the gland to produce more sweat.
4. It slow the blood flow in body. Muscles don’t get enough blood and they become weak.
5. Slow blood supply to brain results depression, and hopelessness.
6. Rapid fall of hair.
7. Muscle cramp and pain.

Vitamin D supplements:

Vitamin D supplements taken by mouth are useful. Supplements having Vitamin D and calcium are more effective. Single injection Vitamin D do not seem to have beneficial effects.

Side Effects:

Vitamin D is likely safe when taken by mouth or given as a shot into the muscles in recommended amount . Most people do not commonly experience side effects with Vitamin D unless too much is taken. Some side effects of taking too much Vitamin D include weakness, fatigue, sleeplessness, headache, loss of appetite, dry mouth, metallic taste, nausea, vomiting and others.
Taking Vitamin D for long period of time in doses higher than 4000 unit daily is possibly unsafe and may cause excessively high level of calcium in the blood.

Dosage:

Adults by mouth: 50,000 IU per weak for 6-12 weak has has been used.
Vitamin D level in blood: level of 20 to 30 ng/ml is considered adequate for healthy people.

Ramadan Fasting

It is Ramadan in the month of  May this year.   It is Muslims’ duty to  fast for the whole month of Ramadan, from early morning to sunset. It is very hot climate these days and some precautionary steps are necessary to take to avoid any unwanted situation.

Sehri:

1- Drink more water at Sehri time , at least 2 glass . Eat yogurt with  Sehri meal.
2- Chew 2  to 3 piece of green Cardamom after eating Sehri. It will control thrust during day.

Aftaari:

1- The best way to break fasting is to eat 2 dates and drink water. Avoid to drink water more than 2 glass at one time. Eat something  between drinking water.
2- Eat fruits which have water in them, like water melon, cucumber  and salads. These will help to recover/maintain body water level.
3- Avoid to drink soft drinks at Aftaari, specially milk and soda. It will upset the stomach. Juices and cold drinks may cause gain in body weight.

Prayers:

While going to Masjid for prayers (Trawih), take a bottle of water  with you to drink during prayers.

May Almighty Allah grant us strength to fast in the whole month of Ramadan.
